MINDFULNESS FOR PAIN SIX WEEK COURSE
Alison Bale
This is a six week course combining pain education with mindfulness theory and practice. Each week builds on the prior one, developing knowledge about the brain and pain. How mindfulness can reduce the duration and the intensity of pain. And introducing varied mindfulness-based practices, to create a greater sense of internal safety in the body-mind.
The course is for anyone living with long-term pain or illness, and those who care for them.
You will learn the science that underpins what we know about the causes of chronic pain, how it develops and what maintains it. The basic principles of mindfulness, how it works and the attitudes that it encourages us to bring to our daily lives. And both formal practices, meditations, and informal ways to bring more mindfulness into daily life.
Mindfulness has been shown to be effective in reducing the intensity and the duration of pain. Anyone can learn to do it. And while we cannot promise to always remove pain, relatively short practices have been shown to produce rapid benefits.
The course will equip participants with the skills to continue and develop your own mindfulness practice, in your own way. Long-term practice has been shown to reshape the structure of the brain, leading to long-term benefits in pain sensitivity.
For this workshop, you will need to bring your own:
- Water bottle
- A yoga mat, if you would prefer to lie down for the short body scan practice.
Drop-ins can not be accommodated at this time so please book in advance.
