Dr Amy Lawson

Dr Amy Lawson is a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health &Care Professions Council (HCPC) with chartership status with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Amy is also accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and can offer CBT (Cognitive Behavioural therapy) as well having training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for processing trauma.
Amy has worked in the NHS for over 25 years in a number of settings including mental health and physical health and is currently a service lead for a Staff Psychology Service within an acute trust. She has experience of working with a range of different client presentations including complex trauma, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, low mood and work related stress and burnout.
Amy is trained in evidence based psychological therapies but specialises in compassion focused therapy which has a growing evidence base for working with emotional distress such as shame and self-criticism.
She is currently undertaking further training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and is currently in a position to offer some low cost long term psychodynamic psychotherapy for a male training patient.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a therapeutic process which helps clients explore, understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships, past and present. Psychotherapy sessions last 50 minutes.
Amy works with individual adults and offers weekly sessions on a Friday at the Isbourne centre. She offers a free 20 minute consultation by phone or online to give a potential client the opportunity to ask questions and think about how therapy might be helpful for them.
