Insomnia treatment and sleep health advice
Joanna is a certified sleep practitioner, a registered general nurse, a registered paediatric nurse, and a nurse prescriber. She is the founder and director of WyeSleep and a member of both the British Sleep Society and the World Sleep Society.
She offers clients a bespoke 1:1 evidence based service to treat insomnia, based on cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBTI). Exploring the possible root cause of the insomnia and from this, devising a bespoke plan of care with the client. Joanna also runs sleep workshops for employers, to enhance workplace wellbeing and productivity. She hosts Sleep Retreat weekends, which offer clients a relaxing weekend away, whilst having treatment for insomnia, combined with yoga delivered by a qualified instructor.
After 37 years of nursing in the NHS, Joanna completed her CBTI sleep training with Professor Jason Ellis, professor of sleep science from Northumbria University, and has more recently completed an advanced CBTI course with Oxford University. Prior to leaving the NHS, the last 10 years of Joanna’s career was spent working with young people with a range of mental health difficulties, as a senior nurse in mental health services. This gave her additional skills in dealing with anxiety and depression. She regularly writes articles, speaks at events and on BBC radio, about all things sleep related.
