INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE WRITING

Patricia Fleming

They say that each of us has a book inside us, which means we each have a story to tell that’s unique. Perhaps you would like some guidance on how to record your unique story as a biography or autobiography. Or maybe you would like to weave your story in an imaginative way to create something that goes beyond our lived lives. This can be done in a range of forms – short story, novel, poem, radio play, theatre play, screenplay – all of which have their own formats and some basic ‘rules’ that are useful to learn, even if you go on to break them!

This introductory course aims to give you valuable space to write creatively and try out different ways of writing that you may not thought of trying before.

This course is not designed for writers who are looking for detailed feedback on their work, although feedback will form part of each session. It aims to provide people with little or no writing experience an opportunity to WRITE. It’s also designed for budding writers who would like an opportunity to see if creative writing is something they want to build into their daily lives as a hobby, or as a basis for more regular writing practice. It could also appeal to writers who have only written prose or poetry before and would like to try other genres, or to ‘stalled’ writers who need some inspiration and regular writing time to get the ink flowing again.

In small groups, in a safe and supportive atmosphere, you will be able to explore your creativity and see where your ideas take you!
