About
Dance and Movement Facilitator

Living in a results/performance-oriented society, we are often inhibited from feeling good about our bodies and how they move by the thought of being judged harshly (whether by ourselves or by others) or failing to achieve a perceived 'standard'.jo-anne hale

The desire to offer people a different experience of being in and moving the body led Jo-Anne to undertake an HNC in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) Studies, qualifying in 2001. She has since also completed 3 years training with Eilla Goldhahn (Snr. Reg. Dance Movement Therapist, ADMT) in Authentic Movement, the principles of which Jo-Anne incorporates into her intuitive, yet down-to-earth and warmly inclusive approach to her movement groups at the Isbourne. Classes range from contemplative movement meditation to the more energetic vibe of Dance4Joy!, which offer alternative ways to de-stress and revive yourself after a busy day.

So what do we get out of this new approach to dance and movement? Well, we can become more comfortable in our own skin, more trusting of our physical senses and more confident in our interactions with other people - as well as derive improved physical wellbeing and mental clarity - from simply allowing ourselves to explore moving in new and different ways. Participants are often amazed and delighted by the spontaneous insights, connections and 'dances' that arise within themselves and others when the pressure is taken off and emphasis is instead placed on enjoying the activity for its own sake.
